Mondello Statement

Last month, political candidate Al Franken was required to pay over $25,000 in penalties to New York State for failing to make workers compensation insurance and disability insurance payments for his employees in Al Franken Incorporated.Recent reports that Al Franken Incorporated, the company Al Franken founded in New York in 1991, has not filed corporate income returns in the State of California from 2003-2007 raises new questions about his business dealings.

According to media reports, the Franken Campaign and Al Franken have attempted to lay the blame for his business mistakes at the feet of a New York tax accountant who cannot be reached for comment. Mr. Franken’s failure to take responsibility for his company’s tax irregularities raises questions that, absent full and complete disclosure, will continue to reflect negatively upon is ability to hold public office.

Hopefully, this accountant will come forward to clarify the situation and put an end to what is now a growing string of questionable cross-country business activities related to Mr. Franken.
