It is with a deep sense of sadness that New Yorkers today heard that Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno will not be running for reelection this fall. He was an absolute giant of politics and government who made this state better through his tireless dedication and selfless efforts. He will long be remembered as one of New York’s greatest public servants for the way he conducted himself at all times– with courage, character, decency and vision.

Joe Bruno was a great leader because he listened to his supporters, and he was a great politician because he listened to the people. He has untold friends and supporters across the state and nation, because he is a good friend and supporter to all who know him.

New York will never be able to fully replace Joe Bruno, and all New Yorkers will miss him as an active participant in public life. However, the Republican Party will continue to move forward with an unwavering focus on the elections this fall with Joe Bruno’s career of service as a guiding example.
