Statement from Joseph N. Mondello, New York Republican State Committee Chairman

John McHugh has been a model public servant throughout his long and distinguished career representing the people of the 23rd Congressional District.  As leader of the House Armed Services Committee, John has shown steadfast leadership in providing our military with all the support they need to succeed at home and abroad.

I join with all New Yorkers in wishing John well in his new position as Secretary of the Army.  He is eminently qualified and will be an asset to the Army and the entire nation.

He served the 23rd Congressional District constituents well and faithfully, representing their needs and expectations, including limited government with a focus on stimulating the economy, supporting business growth and keeping people safe.

We have already begun plans to review potential candidates and support the most qualified individual to run for his seat.   We are confident that the voters’ will return a Republican to Congress to fight for their issues and ensure a balanced voice for the 23rd Congressional District in government.
