New York State Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox today called on Democratic leaders in our State Senate and Assembly to accept responsibility for the state’s budget woes and to finally bring a Deficit Reduction Plan (DRP) to a vote before Thanksgiving. “The state is running out of cash and any delay in voting on the DRP would irresponsible,” said Cox.
“After adding $10 billion to the budget this year and raising taxes by $8.5 billion to pay for it, the Democratic leadership must now take responsibility and decisive action to close the budget gap.
Democrat inaction, infighting and indecision have made matters worse at a time when New Yorkers expect action. Speaker Silver has characteristically not bothered to offer a solution to the budget crisis and the Democratic leaders in the State Senate can’t seem to stop bickering long enough to put forth a coherent plan. It would be sad if it weren’t so serious a situation.”
