Rich Lowry, New York Post

THE signature moment of Barack Obama’s primary campaign came last November in Des Moines, Iowa. He gave a speech at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner that electrified the crowd and gave his campaign a kick that helped win the Iowa caucuses - a victory without which he wouldn’t be the Democratic nominee. Fredric U. Dicker, New York PostHere are excerpts from the never-before-revealed sworn testimony of former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s communications director, Darren Dopp, who repeatedly told the State Ethics Commission last fall that Spitzer and his aides approved each step in the Dirty Tricks Scandal.

Dopp provided the bombshell transcripts and summaries to The Post’s state editor, Fredric U. Dicker.

They show that his under-oath testimony last October directly contradicts the conclusion of Albany DA David Soares’ report, released just weeks earlier, saying that Spitzer wasn’t involved in the plot against then-Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno. (more…)

Mondello Statement

The latest attacks from Obama supporters, which stunningly question John McCain’s military service just days before Independence Day, end one of the Democrat candidate’s worst months yet. Given John McCain’s unquestioned dedication and sacrifice for his country, Barack Obama should strongly condemn Wesley Clark’s remarks and remove him from consideration as his Vice Presidential running mate. Delegate and Committemember Elections, Smooth Leadership Transition for Republicans

Republican leadership and grassroots supporters from across the state today gathered at the New York Republican State Committee meeting in Albany to complete their delegate slate to the National Convention, elect National and State Committeemembers and conduct Party business in a great spirit of unity. Coupled with the leadership transition within the Senate, State Chairman Joseph N. Mondello was optimistic about the future of the Republican Party and the State of New York.

“With the display of unity within the political structure at our meeting and the smooth passing of the Republican torch from Senator Joe Bruno to Senator Dean Skelos and his new Deputy Majority Leader Thomas Libous occurring at the Capitol, I see tremendous cause for optimism for our Party,” said Chairman Mondello. It is with a deep sense of sadness that New Yorkers today heard that Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno will not be running for reelection this fall. He was an absolute giant of politics and government who made this state better through his tireless dedication and selfless efforts. He will long be remembered as one of New York’s greatest public servants for the way he conducted himself at all times– with courage, character, decency and vision. (more…)

Statement from Joseph N. Mondello, New York Republican State Committee Chairman

The soaring price of gasoline is at absolute crisis level for small businesses and families who are already dealing with rising prices across the board. Today’s rally in Albany highlights the problem Republicans have been trying to address for months with little cooperation from Democrats.

Republicans from Senator John McCain at the federal level to Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, Assembly Republican Leader James Tedisco and their Republican conferences at the state level have advanced a range of commonsense proposals to provide the relief people need immediately while longer-term solutions are proposed, researched and enacted. Statement from Joseph N. Mondello, New York Republican State Committee Chairman

After repeatedly telling the American people that he supported and would participate in the public financing system, Senator Barack Obama has now backtracked and opted out. This is the latest flip-flop from Senator Obama, following his conflicting positions on Reverend Wright, negotiating with terrorist leaders, foreign policy positions in the Middle East and others.

American needs a President who will take thoughtful, determined stances on critical issues and stick with them through tough times. Unfortunately, the public has no reason to have faith in Senator Obama’s ability to be the kind of leader we need. (more…)

ALBANY, NY (06/12/2008; 1513)(readMedia)-- Mondello Statement:
New Yorkers today welcome John McCain to a New York town hall meeting in historic Federal Hall, where he will once again demonstrate his openness, accountability and commitment to an open airing of ideas of how to best address the challenges facing America.

Although Senator Obama has found time to come to New York to raise millions of campaign dollars, he has regrettably declined to participate in this open, responsive town hall meeting with the public.

New Yorkers and Americans deserve an open and civil discussion among the two candidates about their proposed solutions to make people’s lives better. Unfortunately, it appears that Senator Obama is more comfortable delivering rehearsed speeches behind a podium.

It is particularly disturbing that Barack Obama has said that he would meet unconditionally with terrorists and tyrants, yet he refuses to meet face-to-face with the people of New York and his opponent.

New York Sun Editorial

So Senator Obama, who is running a presidential campaign of “change” aimed at reducing the influence of special interests and lobbyists in Washington, has a federally registered lobbyist leading the host committee for the Denver convention at which he’ll be nominated, and was having his vice presidential candidates vetted by a man who took more than $7 million in loans under a special “Friends of Angelo” program for associates of the chief of sub-prime lender Countrywide. It’s getting a little crowded under Bar ack Obama’s bus.

Washington power broker James Johnson got tossed under yesterday - joining Chicago wheeler-dealer Tony Rezko, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the entire Trinity United Church of Christ. (more…)
