ALBANY, NY (05/01/2008; 1456)(readMedia)-- Today’s Siena Research Institute poll, which found that seventy percent of people identify gas prices as one of their top concerns and nearly three-quarters of New Yorkers support gas tax relief, underscores the magnitude of the problem and need for immediate action.

Republicans from Senator McCain at the federal level to Senate Majority Leader Bruno, Assembly Republican Leader Tedisco and their Republican conferences at the state level have advanced commonsense proposals to provide relief from soaring gas prices for hard working, overburdened New York families and businesses. Additionally, the State Republican Party has created an online petition at www.nygop.org to give people an opportunity to voice their opposition to gas taxes.

These sensible Republican plans will provide immediate relief from the economic problems people are facing during the busy summer driving season while longer-term solutions are proposed, researched and enacted.

Unfortunately, Democrats like Senator Obama and others at the State level are out of touch and are simply not listening to the pressing needs of working families and businesses. I urge them to read the results of this survey and act to bring about positive change.

Statement by Chairman Joseph N. Mondello, New York Republican State Committee

Republicans in New York State today took another positive step forward in our efforts to deliver real tax relief and allow more people to keep more of their hard-earned money instead of turning it back over to the government in taxes at the pump. Both the Senate and Assembly Republicans announced solid plans, and the State Party has created an online petition at www.nygop.org to give people an opportunity to voice their opposition against gas taxes. ALBANY, NY (04/30/2008; 1447)(readMedia)-- Republicans in New York State today took another positive step forward in our efforts to deliver real tax relief and allow more people to keep more of their hard-earned money instead of turning it back over to the government in taxes at the pump. Both the Senate and Assembly Republicans announced solid plans, and the State Party has created an online petition at www.nygop.org to give people an opportunity to voice their opposition against gas taxes.

The actions of Republicans in the State Senate and Assembly, along with Senator John McCain’s proposals at the federal level, demonstrate a responsive and accountable approach to serving the people of this state—the way government is supposed to work.

These sensible Republican plans will provide immediate relief for the problems people are facing every day, while longer-term solutions are proposed, researched and enacted.

Unfortunately, Democrats from Senator Obama down to the state level are refusing to join with Republicans to provide the help hard working overtaxed families and businesses desperately need, especially as we head into the busy summer driving season. Unfortunately, Senator Obama has flatly opposed the plan as a bad idea, even though he supported suspending the gas tax as a State Senator in Illinois.

This issue continues to underscore that the Democrats are out of touch with the everyday problems that New Yorkers and Americans face.

It’s time for the Democrats to come to the table and get things accomplished on this critical issue.

In order to make certain everyone hears the growing call of hard working New York families and businesses for gas tax relief, we are creating an online petition. I encourage everyone to make their voice heard by signing the petition at www.nygop.org.

ALBANY, NY (04/29/2008; 1524)(readMedia)-- Last month, political candidate Al Franken was required to pay over $25,000 in penalties to New York State for failing to make workers compensation insurance and disability insurance payments for his employees in Al Franken Incorporated.

Recent reports that Al Franken Incorporated, the company Al Franken founded in New York in 1991, has not filed corporate income returns in the State of California from 2003-2007 raises new questions about his business dealings.

According to media reports, the Franken Campaign and Al Franken have attempted to lay the blame for his business mistakes at the feet of a New York tax accountant who cannot be reached for comment. Mr. Franken's failure to take responsibility for his company's tax irregularities raises questions that, absent full and complete disclosure, will continue to reflect negatively upon is ability to hold public office.

Hopefully, this accountant will come forward to clarify the situation and put an end to what is now a growing string of questionable cross-country business activities related to Mr. Franken.

Statement by Chairman Joseph N. Mondello, New York Republican State Committee

As thousands of truck drivers from across the country travel to Washington D.C. asking for relief from soaring fuel prices, Senator Obama refuses to support a plan to help hard working American families and business.

With the average price of gas in New York State creeping even closer to four dollars per gallon heading into the busy summer driving season, families and businesses in New York and across America need relief right now. (more…)

ALBANY, NY (04/28/2008; 1458)(readMedia)-- As thousands of truck drivers from across the country travel to Washington D.C. asking for relief from soaring fuel prices, Senator Obama refuses to support a plan to help hard working American families and business.

With the average price of gas in New York State creeping even closer to four dollars per gallon heading into the busy summer driving season, families and businesses in New York and across America need relief right now.

Senator McCain’s gas tax relief plan, coupled with similar proposals at the state level from Republicans in the State Legislature, would help both families and businesses keep more of their hard earned money instead of turning it back over to the government in taxes at the pump.

The rallies and meetings by the truck drivers today underscore how higher fuel costs hurt everyone—including those who do not drive—by inflating the cost of food and other necessities that are shipped to local stores.

These sensible Republican plans will provide immediate relief for the problems people are facing every day, while longer-term solutions are proposed, researched and enacted.

Unfortunately, Senator Obama has flatly opposed the plan as a bad idea, even though he supported suspending the gas tax as a State Senator in Illinois.

This issue once again underscores that the Democrats are out of touch with the everyday problems that New Yorkers and Americans face. Every day, the problem becomes clearer and more painful; it’s time for a solution.

Recent developments at both the state and national level have led to an increasingly positive forecast for Republicans in New York State.
