NY GOP: Rangel's Plaza Hotel Birthday Bash should Instead be "Going Away" Party

~ Celebration of corrupt Congressman leaves New Yorkers with bitter taste in their mouths ~

Manhattan, New York...August 11, 2010
- Prior to Congressman Charlie Rangel's self-indulgent, indignant, astonishingly arrogant, and entirely self-defeating 37-minute rant on the House Floor yesterday, no one really doubted  that the maligned former Ways and Means Committee chair refuses to simply "go away."  Just in case, however, Congressman Rangel stated plainly during his diatribe, which disrupted a debate on public safety and education, that he will forgo any dignified approach to resigning on his own.

Mr. Rangel chose to deliver his hyperbolic harangue on the House Floor because, unlike when  speaking before the Ethics Committee, he would not be held accountable for his comments.  On the House Floor, Mr. Rangel did not have to elaborate on, or defend, his loose ethics approach and possible criminal behavior while in office.  The rant was just more grandstanding for the poster-boy for Democrat corruption.

Today, Charlie Rangel will blow out the candles atop his cake at his 80th birthday bash at the posh Plaza Hotel.   To Rangel's statements, however hollow, and tonight's celebration of the corrupt Congressman, should be added the equally long overdue expulsion of Rangel from Congress for his ethical and legal transgressions.

Rangel's obstinate refusal to face the consequences of his ethical wrongdoing and his brazen disregard for the public's trust will be on egregious display again this evening. If there is one birthday gift from tonight's party that promises to keep on giving until election day, it is the arrogance of the Democrats' absolute power in Albany and Washington that is repugnant to the citizens they claim to serve.  We would all be better off if tonight's birthday bash were instead a bon voyage party for Charlie Rangel, putting an end to Rangel's Big Apple Circus.
